rough or loping idle under strange conditions
 

1982 300TD...

the engine is still idling rough under certain conditions. The idle sounds like it is about to die. It kinda just lopes along or pulsates.

I loosened each one of the injector lines and the result was about the same for all, so I don't think it's the result of a single bad of leaking injector. But I could be wrong since I'm new to diesels.

When the car is in neutral or park it idles rough.

When the car is slowing to a stop, foot off the pedal, it idles rough.

When the car is stopped and still in drive, the idle seems to smooth out.

I would expect the total opposite.

I did adjust the idle speed screw a little to raise the idle, maybe 1/8 turn in.

I have not yet messed with the "rack dampning screw? thing at the rear of the IP.
