I have been contacted by a number of members regarding the rebuilding turbochargers. Since I have been doing it for a number of years, I thought I would post this as a sort of interest poll.

In general, most turbos can be rebuilt by replacing the bushings, snap ring retainers, sealing rings, gaskets, 'O' rings, bolts and a new compressor wheel.

Seldom do I see a bad shaft under most conditions. However, I can get replacement shafts for around $275.00 if needed and this includes the integral exhaust turbine wheel.

When I do a turbo, I polish the shaft to a mirror finish and check it for size and straightness. I then chamfer the oil feed (to match the gasket and straighten oil flow) and polish it to a mirror finish. I also polish the compressor housing inlet and the stepped adaptor as well. All bolt holes are chased/cleaned and ALL new bolts are fitted.

Since I live in Visalia, CA. 93292, shipping would of course have to be taken into consideration, but I believe the quality of workmanship would make it well worthwhile.

I recently did a turbo for a local fellow whose 300SD I used to service at the local MBZ dealer. I did the above mentioned polishing and cleaning, installed a master overhaul kit and a new compressor wheel for $350.00 on the bench.

He compared my work to a 'remanufactured' turbo he paid $450.00 for, a few years ago and my quality of work was far better overall.

Just out of curiosity, what are some of you paying to have this kind of work done on your turbos???
