Overhaul Kit for 722.120 Transmission

Recently, a local dealer quoted me $600.00 for a master rebuild kit for the 722.120 (1978 W116 with OM617 Engine) Transmission and $140.00 just for a Gasket & Seal Kit.

I was not happy with these prices to say the least, so I started contacting some old friends in the business.

What I came up with was a Complete Gasket Set including ALL Internal/External Seals, Pan Gasket (Less Filter) and (8) Friction Discs for $160.00. The kit is German made by Lemfoder and the clutches bear MBZ markings.

I also have access to bands and the select thickness steel plates at a similar discount.

What kind of prices are you encountering on similar items???

I invite your comments on this topic...Bert

That's typical. The dealer is not at all competitive on certain things, but is a good source for single parts like a burned friction plate. I think the dealerships deliberately price themselves out of certain things and transmissions from older cars is one of them.

Plus, a good rebuilder with a concience seems to be harder and harder to find nowadays. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't get into that field.
