diesel recommendation please?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all. I'm a long time owner and fan of old VW 1.6L diesels and as I get a little older am ready to graduate to more luxurious ride. The thing that draws me to the diesels in the first place is their bulletproof engines and components = reliability. I've just begun the reasearch on the Mercedes and have observed these main series to be of interest; 90-93 300D, 94-95 E300 diesel, the '96+ E320 diesels, and perhaps 190E diesels if they come recommended. I plan on putting 25K+ on the odometer annually of easy country highway miles. Of the models mentioned above, does any particular model/engine/chassis have a better track record vs the other as far as durability, reliability, and ease of repair? Any trouble models I should avoid? I've heard the 350's are "money pits". Thanks for any input-

All of the models you are looking at are the best of diesel MB's made. They are all on the W124 chassis, a proven durable car. The 90-93 used a 5 cylinder diesel, it is a very good engine and very hard to hurt. But he newer ones use the 606. I like the 606 a lot I think it is one of the best diesels MB has made, the 95's used a na 606 and are ok speed wise. If you want a diesel that moves then the 98-99 W210's are the way to go. The turbo 606 is a great engine with lots of power and you should get into the low 30's on the highway.
