Diesel Purge Question
A lot of people reccomend that after a diesel purging is done, that it would be a good idea to change the inline and spin-on fuel filters. Is it really neccessary to do so? Or can I go ahead and purge w/o changing the filters.

it should be fine
I did a diesel purge to my 300D last summer, and I only replaced the plastic inline filter (which needed to be replaced anyway) The main spin on filter (still rather new at the time) was perfectly fine, until I replaced it last week.
If you havent changed the filters in a long time, I would go ahead and replace them after doing the purge. If you have rather new filters, I would only replace the plastic inline filter.

See, now this is why like this forum. I can ask a question, and get a prompt response that answers my question directly without smart-alecky comments about something completely different. This forum is by far the best MB diesel forum on the net.

Yes I had to add that, without it wouldn't be a proper thread in the Diesel Discussion forum.

I just did mine and replaced both filters. They were less than 4 months old, but they were full of black crap.....You wouldn't believe what came out of my screw on filter!!
I may have a fungus problem or something. Not really sure, but they clog FAST...... Just my experience. It took less than 30 seconds for my bottle of purge to turn a dark nasty color from the return hose.

Fungus......My mechanic told me to pour about a pint of gasoline in my tank on the next fill up and the gas would take care of the fungus...and do this about every three months........Take it for whatever its worth.......
I've been doing it for a while................ No problems

Can anyone clarify this? Do the filters get changed before or after the purge? Danny

Hey TonyD,
So much for the smart ass question. You got nailed. In general what is this purge thing? Is this something done after fungus is discovered or preventive maintenance? I'm not familiar with the term or practice. Anyone care to splain? Thanks, Peter
