what kind of adhesive should i use for heat shield?

1985 300D. the old heat shield is crumbling and getting stuff all over the engine compartment. i bought i universal one at pep boys.i'm just not sure what i should use to hold it in place. i couldn't find anything that was recommended for use with heat shields, particularly those in diesel cars, since they get hotter than a gasoline engine does. anyone dealt with this problem, or have any suggestions?

3M 8090. It is made for hood pads. Comes in an aerosol can. One can is just about what you will need. Available at Advance Auto and NAPA.
