Clock does not work.
Cruise does not work. Vacuum door locks do not work. Engine runs like $hit, presumably (needs diesel purge). But the real kicker is the statement at the end that states you cannot inspect the vehicle after you have purchased it. I suppose that the fenders could be falling off due to rust and he would obligate you to buy it, notwithstanding. This approach really bothers me. It basically states that anything that is represented cannot be relied upon and he might as well have stated nothing and simply put up the photos. |

Speaking of record holders my insurance company e-bulletin contained this trivia today:
A 1996 Volvo P1800 is named "the highest car mileage" record holder in the Guinness Book of Records. It has more than 2,000,000 miles and is still going strong

See this previous auction. Different car, but if one compares the descriptions, it would appear that the seller is pretty lazy with the cut-n-paste. Also note negative feedback both ways on that transaction.
I have some modest, well-controlled sympathy for sellers of used cars. Yes, there are some bogus sellers, but there are some bogus buyers, too, and terms of sale should (IMHO) provide some reasonable protection from either. If I were buying (or selling), I think more reasonable terms might expressly state that, if the buyer were coming to pick the car up in person, he would have the option of not completing the transaction after personally inspecting/test driving the car, with the condition that he would still be out some predetermined portion of his deposit (say, enough to cover the seller's fees, plus something for the seller's time and trouble to be there for the buyer to pick up the car, etc.) This sort of thing can go a long way toward inspiring some confidence in a prospective buyer, especially if the seller has accrued enough honest feedback to demonstrate that he's as good as his word. I can't claim originality for the above idea. I got it from viewing the terms of sale that engatwork had in one of his vehicle auctions on eBay (if I recall correctly, he might have asked for nothing more than the fees if the buyer decided to not complete the transaction). This is just my opinion, of course, and sellers are free to write all sorts of drivel in their terms of sale - the same way I'm free to hit the "back" button on my browser and move on because of those terms. |

"When you come down to pick up the vehicle, if the vehicle is not in the condition as represented you do not have to purchase it and your deposit will be refunded". Now there is a seller that you can trust!! He's taking a very big risk because it is impossible to fully describe a vehicle's condition in a one page ad. |

Guiness world records recognizes a Volvo P1800 w/ over 2,000,000 miles on it as the highest mileage vehicle with a single owner/driver, which is a key point. Who knows if some company owned taxi cab in some distant corner of the world has over 2,000,000 miles on it, for one thing, they might not think to report it to Guiness, and for another, it probably didn't have one owner/driver the whole time.
We may never know what the highest mileage car in the world is. Hopefully its a 123, but its anyone's guess. peace, sam

Feedback of 90.7 says it all...I refuse to buy from anyone with feedback under 99 and it never fails.

Exactly. Read his feedback. Even if he had 100% positive feedback some other things in the ad warrant caution. You all are germanophiles by virtue of the cars you drive so use your VERSTAND. I always thought the high mileage recordholder was a '58 180d Ponton body up Seattle way.

You know, if you look at my car, you'd see exactly what that one will look like with 280k on it. Mine was cleaner than that when father bought it so long ago with 120K on it.
