I bought a speedometer for my SD and have a question.

How many different speedometer's did MB make for the 126 chasis? The one I took out goes up to 160 mph. The one I found(salvage yard) only goes up to 85mph. Both speedometer's are for a 126. BTW, my car is an '82. The car that donated the 85mph speedometer is an '83. Just curious about the difference.

They are calibrated according to the rear end ratio....which varies across models..............if you expect accuracy rather than simple function.

Thanks for the quick reply

I went ahead and purchased the 85mph speedometer. It works! The 160mph speedometer gave up several months ago. Just cruising around town the speedometer seems to be rather accurate but I will get the local law man later to "clock" me. Maybe that will give me some idea of how accurate the speedometer is.

Pick a ten mile stretch of highway and stop by a mile marker. Reset your trip meter and let us know what it reads after you count off ten mile markers.
