Looking at the MB manual I believe that is called the " wheel carrier ".
I really suggest you have a copy of the chassis manual before tackling stuff on the rear axle.... I think this is where they earned their reputation for OVERENGINEERING . Way over done.... there look to be at least three items which are one time use... so you would want to stock up on those before you tear it apart... and lots of special tools and pullers specified...

Rear axle hub?

Used one from auto wreckers may be cost effective. Possibly expensive part new and used one should be just about equal in condition. You may want to buy complete assembley including hub carrier if special tools are required to extract axle hub from it. Plus you will not have to buy the single use parts. Just install complete assembly. Still should be really cheap as really how many of these do auto wreckers sell? A little money in their hands is better than crushing it. Same applies to all low demand parts. Negotiate if required. One stratagy that my daughter uses when I send her for parts is "my dads so poor he cannot even afford to buy wax for his mercedes cars". Her attractive appearance does not seem to be detrimental either. Have been trying to talk her into fainting upon hearing their first price quote with no luck. Cannot win them all I suppose.

Yeah if you mean the part "way" in back with the 2 bolt holes showing, that's the carrier. I've never had to replace one on an early 80's like yours, the late 80's SEL I have because they went with what I call a "floating caliper" (not really what it is, but the caliper mounts to a collar, which is also on a large bearing, and the bearings go to heck and rattle like crazy). Anyways, I wonder why on an older one you'd need to replace the whole carrier? On the newer ones we found it was more cost-effective to replace the whole carrier rather than try to replace the bearing.
I think the newer style ones they call it a "carrier w/anti-squat"

stumblebum,
I attached a link to another post that shows the hub out of vehicle. Just an FYI. They are over $350 new, so find a used one for sure.
What is wrong with yours, by the way?

Your profile isn't really clear if you have a 300D or 300SD, so I just chose the 300D for an fyi...

In the words of Gomer Pyle "For shame, for shame, shame on you." Or was it Yosemite Sam "Of all the low down, rotten, caniving tricks. Why you, I oughta......."
