Lubes-n-greases magazine

I know we all love oil threads here, but my father in law works for NIOSH and occasionally brings home his copy of "Lubes-n-greases"...
(do not use this title in the company of perverts...or online anywhere... =)

And occasionally they have some neat articles- usually its about new oil testing methods, or oil company stuff. Most of the technical aspects are above my head ("Naphthenics" ???) but this month, there is an interesting blurb on page 4 (the feb 2005 edition, available right hrrr..
The 'publisher's letter' is about how a recent test was performed using an API-SA and an API-SL oils in an engine- the API SA failed miserably- no surprise becuase it is the oldest motor oil standard out there (?). According to the publisher chickie- there are still companies that sell API SA rated oil (!!!!) Maybe I just havent looked hard enough (not that I'd use an S-anything in my diesel =)

I guess the lesson is 1) Look at that damn API rating if you are going 'cheap' on oil and 2) if you really want more intellectual oil info, lubes-n-greases isnt a bad place to page through every month or so (not sure if they have a company bias...too soon for me to tell, but I am getting my copies from **NIOSH**...

Thoughts ?

-John

hehe lubes n greases. Sorry had to add that. I subscribed (free newsletter), looks interesting and they might possibly have some hard answers to add to all gazillion oil threads we have.

Hmm maybe I could find a better lube for my engine!

Sorry I'm a college student what do you expect!

Anyway sounds like an interesting mag. But I can read the 500 oil threads for free here!

Dont worry, if there is ever anything interesting written there then I'll post it up here for discussion (starting, yet another oil thread =)
I dont think they do a lot of "investigative reporting" or anything of use to the car hobbyist, but, since it is an industry publication, I figured that it was worth keeping an eye on.
