My 123 leaks like an SOB / Hey that rhymes

My crankshaft seal leaks about a quart a month

It’s not that big of a deal but soon I will have to change parking spots and I would like to keep this one cleaner.

Any ideas on how to keep this spot clean or maybe even patch it up some how?

Yeah, install a new seal.

is it a pain in the butt
it looks like something that requires an engine pull

Crank seal replacement

It's not that tough to replace the crankshaft seal , I'm assuming it's the front seal . The rear seal does require pulling the engine , from what I've seen on this forum . You have to get your fan and fan shroud off , all your belts ( why not change them ) When you go to take the pulley off , be sure to clean all the muck out of the hex or allen key holes or you risk stripping them . Then you will need a puller to remove the harmonic balancer ( * be very sure to mark the relationship between the balancer and the crank , it can go on 180 degrees off ) You can pry out the old seal with a flat blade scewdriver or small crowbar . Installing the new seal care must be taken as the seal has to ride up over the spacer as it goes on , lube the rubber up well and probably give the metal part of the seal a coat of aviation gasket seal before installing , althogh that could be overkill . I just did the front seal two weeks ago andit went perfectly with the second attempt . The first time the rubber deformed and the seal was ruined . Check with Mercedes Source as Kent was in the final stages of a kit for front seal installation and his booklets that accompany his kits are extremely helpful . For putting the new seal in you could either get a large socket of the appropriate size or a pvc plumbing fitting cut down so you could use the balancer bolt itself to draw it in . Go for the seal replacement .You will also need to borrow or rent a torque wrench capable of 250 ft/lbs to reinstall the balancer .

Find me an old MB that isn't leaking some sort of fluid! Just fix it or live with it.
