Diesel Convertion for 450SLC, Interested?

I posted here a few days ago that I am converting my 79' SLC to have a 5 cyl turbo diesel. I have started the project and it is going smoothly. I am going to document the entire project with pictures, measurements etc. I will also fabricate custom motor mounts. I would like to know how many people would be interested in buying a kit to do this convertion from me. The kit would include two powdercoated engine mounts and an instructional manual full of pictures, specs and advice. I imagine I would sell it in the $150 ball park. Just wanted to get a show of hands for parties who would be possibly interested. Thanks

Andrew

Sorry I don't know the details of the SLC body, but would it be easier to saw out the frame from a junk diesel body and weld that in? I remember looking at my parts car thinking that as a buddy has a land rover he was thinking of powering with a MB diesel. Then it would take the standard rubber engine mounts and shocks......do the earlier models use shocks?? I'm not sure..I think they sure smooth things out. Just rambling...

German Engineering is Awesome!

No need to cut the hole thing out. You just have to trim one of the cross members and use custom mounts. It looks like the diesel belongs under the hood of th SLC.

Personally, I'd like to see a 5.6L motor from a 560SL in a SLC body. A 560SLC would be nice.

Sheesh, Andrew, where were you when I bought a Euro 280SLC with a blown engine a couple of years ago?

A diesel SLC sounds awesome to me. I don't have any need for the kit (found a used motor for mine, then had to sell it later), but I'd love to see pictures of the conversion as it progresses.

Heck if you want to put a diesel in the SLC, at least put a 603 in! Much more power, and better mpg too, than the 617.

And while you hacking away at it, weld on a bracket and put a snow plow on it too!

If we had snow on the beach in california I probably would! instead I'll put a tow hitch on it and collect my WVO in style. After this Im converting an SEC, that should be a piece of cake though since its no different than any other 126 body, or so I think anyway

Check around. I found a storage lot for boats/rv/trailers/etc. that was willing to store my 240 for $35 per month. It's outdoors, but it's well secure and I don't have anyone threatening me to tow it! And it was less than 2 blocks from my house to boot!
