I want "Big Fat Huge" Repair Manual!

I am sorry to bring this up, but I am furious as to where to get the original Mercedes Manual for my car. I am talking about the kind that is so "FAT" its an encyclopedia.

I seen manuals like these for diesel Buses. So detailed it blows my mind away. So please help me figure out where they are and if they exisit.

Can I get one from the MB dealer?

I dislike ALLDATA DIY just for the poor picture qaulity, VERY POOR! what do they think this is ? A guessing game?

Please help.... thanks

Not likely. They are frequently available on Ebay. For the W123, there are two volumes for the chassis, one for the engine, one for climate control, one on electrical troubleshooting. None of those covers the transmission, so there must be another volume that does.

I've been slowly accumulating the "encyclopedias" on e-bay for the W126. Same deal. One huge one for the chassis (or two smaller ones), one for electrical troubleshooting (with schematics), one for the engine, one for climate control, and as posted above, probably another for the transmission, but I've never seen it.

Be prepared to pay dearly. Each one runs between $60. and $100.

I'm still waiting to find one for the 603. I just bought one for a "Model year 1986, Engine 603.961, in Model 126.125" Couldn't ask for anything more perfect, right?

Well, this is not the engine manual.

This manual is only 100 pages long and explains the engine systems in detail and how to troubleshoot various systems, with all the vacuum diagrams, and engine electrical schematics. But, it has nothing on removing and installing any major engine component such as the head, camshaft, valves, etc.

So, for $65.00, I received a very handy specification manual for the 603, but, no hard info in the engine itself.

I too would like to get one. My father had one for a 190Db and 1964 190D. They where thick. If I remember(it's been over 25 years ago) he got them from the dealer. Which is ok. I would rather pay a little more and get a "real" shop manual. And from what I've read on the forum, the cd manual is adequate, if of low quality and the Haynes manual although informative not very detailed. Is the dealer the best place for this?

Thanks
Charlie

Unfortunately, the dealer does not sell the paper manuals anymore. They sell the CD for a ton of money, however.

Here's a place that usually has them in stock. Be aware that sometimes they are reprints, and they ain't cheap.

Sometimes they have original manuals, (sometimes new, sometimes used). Sometimes they have reprints of the originals. The reprints I have seen were very good quality, although the had comb binders. A full set of books for a 300D will probably run $300 or more.

Brian, I was not aware that an electrical troubleshooting manual was available. Does this cover the 126 I have (82)? and does it depict tests with a common DMM or reference a roomfull of special Mercedes test boxes? When I bought my manuals in 1996, (body, engine and climate control) I tried to get a trans manual. They were not available then.

I have the 1982 "Electrical Troubleshooting Manual" which covers the 240D, 300D, 300SD, 380SL, & 380 SEL/SEC. The book is consists mainly of electrical diagrams. There are a few pages devoted to basic diagnostic procedures using a volt meter and ohm meter. There is little mention of special test equipment. There is also a chapter on the ACC, with diagrams of the air distribition system.

I've got one for the later W126, '86-'89. Basically, it's wiring diagrams. Not any real tests to speak of. There is a three page section in the front that explains how to troubleshoot a circuit in the most basic of terms.

I still need one for the SD.

This group of 300D manuals closed for ~$220 on eBay recently. From what I've seen of prices for manuals, that might have been a reasonable deal for someone who wanted them all, or was willing to resell any that he didn't need.

I'd pay $$$ for a manual transmission FSM.

I can't even find the gear ratios for my manual tranny 300d

I'm gonna need to change that clutch in the not so distant future.

Anybody have any specs for my tranny... Theres NOTHING @ skinnerbox FSM site, I checked around and really struck out, anybody?

Thanks,
Robert
