Deciphering your build sheet....

I got to thinking about the interiors I saw on Ebay. I was thinking of purchasing but I wanted to make 110% sure of my interior. I love my Benz and I am competent when it comes to most of the mechanics but to be honest I have a hard time telling Tex and Leather apart.

So I pulled my build sheet and discovered "172" under "equipment" (line 30)

I pulled out my handy-dandy interior/exterior color guide for the '85 model year. Behold, 172 is the color for Blue M-B Tex interior.
Duh. I thought I had leather all along.

Curious though why all the lines are not filled in.
Curious what all the other 3 digit codes at the bottom are for also.

They are usually for stuff like the kind of radio you have, tinted glass, rear window defrost...stuff like that.

I posted this link on another thread recently, but it should provide all the info you need: M-B Codes

Russian VIN/build code decoder

http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

I was amazed, it knew EVERYTHING about my car including ALL the build codes, which dealer sold it, right down to the "trunk lid model number delete".

cheers,
Robert

PS. VWBUGE - I went to college @ IUP, I don't remember it, but I have my diploma.

That is a really usefull site.
FYI: I had to put in my CHASSIS # rather than the VIN # to get a correct result.

I can't get my 17 digit vin, or 10 digit chassis # to come up with anything. The date of manufacture was 01/81 and I bet it didn't make it into the computerized databases.. Any suggestions?

If you do a Vehicle Master Enquiry it should tell you the codes you have and what they mean.

I tried this as well. I got absolutely nothing on either vin or chassis #. How do you do a Vehicle Master Inquiry?

You don't. The dealership does. Part of the VMI tells you the warranty work done. But in the front page is the list of options.
