need quick advice..can't get fender off!

could use some quick advice... I am trying to pull my right front fender on my 240d and I have all the fasteners undone ( for sure) everything is loose ,
it appears that there is soem kind of rubbery undercoat a mile thick probably holding my fender on? Inner fender well glued to oouter fender maybe>
my question is.. how have you approached this and do you slide the fender forward away from the car or lift...

I know it's a novice question but sure could use some pointers..

thanks

Are you replacing the fender? If so I used a recipocating saw to cut along the top of the fender to gain better access to the goo. Once I had access I used a heat gun to soften and scrape off the undercoat. You could use the heatgun under the intact fender but you have to watch the heat closely so you don't cook the outer paint. It's a real PIA either way!!

I know that on some years of the 123 wagon they used hot glue for the front fenders.... I don't know if your car has that... but in the case of the wagons they specified in the manual what temperature they should be brought up by using a bank of heat lamps....

That goop is seriosuly 5/8" thick and like window putty...
I decided to keep the fender and work the kinks out. I am about 1/2 done..was not so bad . A little welding and bondo should do the trick.

thanks for the replies

Bennett
