1985 300td on ebay w/ 71k miles CA car item #4533456113

Watch this car fetch near $20K on the 6th day.
This same car was auctioned last Sunday Oscar night) and closed at $16k.
Now it's been serviced and this seller expects to get the bids up there again.
It is a beauty.....but it has had only 9k miles put on it since 1995 and that was the last oil change or service of any kind done to this car.
This will be amusing to watch all over again.
His high bidder fell out for some unknown reason.

This sort of thing is interesting to watch from a distance, but the mind boggles over the possibilities for what the "real story" is. I could float a bunch of ideas, but it would all be just speculation. I would note that the second highest bidder in that previous auction bid very nearly $16k - no sale there either?

It would be easy enough to contact the seller through the "Ask the Seller a Question" form to get his side of the story.

It would also be possible to contact the previous winning bidder (and second high bidder) to see if they're willing to comment, but I fear that one would risk possible termination from eBay for "auction interference" if somebody were to report it. Anybody willing to risk it?

It is a rare treat when someone here on the forum can actually give us the inside line on one of these cars/auctions (as in, he's actually seen or bought the car, and it is or isn't as good or bad as it looked.) Even though I'm not in the market (at least not at those prices,) this is one of the times when I particularly wish that were the case.

Looks like an awesome wagen. Don't know about those prices, kinda high on that last round.

Still wouldn't mind it sitting in my driveway for a reasonable price.
