diesel fuel all over the block
grrr, no 5 injector end plug and the return line were leaking, apparently for some time as fuel dripped all over the block on the driver's side and stinks like mad...
replaced the lines with MB return line so it's not leaking anymore but how to clean/get rid of the fuel ? i have a power wash place i could sneak into at night and use... could that be a solution? any recommendations to use cleaners beforehand on it or? any thoughts welcome.

just get some brake kleen or similar product and spray that s.o.b. down.
steam cleaning will work too but way more $$$$

Never powerwash a hot IP.
Internal clearances are too close to risk rapid expansion/contraction.

Sadly enough I have known people who have said exactly that and have caused damage to various components.

I'd like to wash my engine down soon, and I don't want to damage anything, would spraying down the engine (warm) with the heated water at a self serve power wash (they're heated here so they don't freeze), cause problems? The water is quite warm when you spray it. Mainly I want to get all the salt residue and other stuff off of the engine, its got salt spray all over the place. I may just take my good o'l bucket of hot water here and splash it over everything a few times, that'd get the salt off. Plus the engine wouldn't be warm.

Good ole engine cleaner at the carwash. Your engine will always be hot when you drive to one. Never been a problem except the distributer of my '67 Camaro. Doesn't like water ON the hood, much less under it. In 13 years I've never driven it in the rain, so I don't know if it would be finicky then.

If you are concerned about temperature shock damaging something, if the engine is hot, then let it idle while you spray it down.
The thermo shock damage results when you shut off the engine and use cold water on hot components.

Use some of that engine cleaner like the Gunk foamy engine brite. It works just OK for cleaning deposits, but it does dissolve & loosen fuel, so after you hose off you should be pretty clean. then start up and dry off

When I replaced my leaking return lines, the next day (after 150 miles) there was no smell. It gets hot enough in there to evaporate it pretty fast.
