606 Turbo Diesel Injector Pump Timing Question

What is the best setting or my options for setting the injector pump? Back to stock or what? I also plan to be getting a chip from speedtuning USA. Any suggestions?

I can't answer your questions. How will the chip from speedtuning USA affect performance? Do you think this will cause problems w/ the engine?

In a gas engine, if you advance the base timing, and your chip cranks it up further, you could be getting into a detonation issue. That is why I asked about it with diesel. If you increased the power and later put on a chip, would that be too much for the engine?

I'm not too familiar with OM606 pumps, but I assume the chip just advances the fuel rack position relative to engine rpms, and doesn't have anything to do with IP timing. Since you already have an intercooler, I don't think you could get in too much trouble with either the chip or an IP timing advance of a single degree--would that be from 14 degrees ATDC to 13 degrees ATDC? I'd probably just install the chip, then possibly tweek the timing later.

This really isn't an issue for a Diesel engine - since your engine is compressing air only (not an air/fuel mixture, like a gasser) there is nothing to burn and trigger detonation.

As far as your question about "can the engine take it?" Who knows? Maybe it can, maybe it can't... You are TOTALLY at the mercy of the person that designed, built and hopefully tested the chip.

Caveot emptor.
