Thanks guys, the pics really hide a lot! The car needs to be painted, I have gotten a nice shine out of the paint but it it loaded with chips, and parking lot dents.
The clear corners are only one part of a complete package. They will look better once I get euro lights, euro wipers, and a euro bumper on it. Those are not very good clear corners anyway I got them for free and just stuck them on for the heck of it. As for the wheels I like a larger more modern wheel on a W126. I hate the stock 15 hole wheels and after living with them all winter I hate them more now. It is impossible to keep 15 holes clear of brake dust, and the tires are to small. But 17in AMG monoblocks would look nice, maybe next time around. As for the interior it seems to be original, I have found no indication that it isn't. I don't think it was an official option probably a special order; the first owner I know nothing about. He kept it until early 1994 and 79k miles, I think it was in CA until then. Tom yours is still for sale? Thanks again guys, but the best is yet to come I am shooting for 1987 showroom floor! Just with a euro twist...

Yeah Hattie I traded in my '86 300 SDL back in January. I took on a new job at Sysco Foods in Sales. I didn't want to put my Benz through the daily grind of driving it to death. A truck will work out great for me. I bought a Toyota Tacoma Prerunner with an extended cab. I really like it but I miss my 126. The 126 is the ultimate car. I know alot of guys love the 123, 124 and 140's, but that 126 has to be the real deal. Last night on the way back from my son't High School Baseball game I stopped by and looked to see if my SDL was still in the Used Car Lot. It's still there with a windo sticker of $6995. If I were going to have sold it I would have asked for about $6500. I pumped in over $3K last year and probably a total of $5k in the last 2 years. I bet if a guy walked in there and layed out $6200. in cash he'd drive out of there with it.

Would a euro 126 have clear corners or aren't they a darker orange? I ask because I want euro lights buyt don't care for the clear corners.
Thanks David

Hattie-
Your car is the SHARPEST W126 300SDL I have seen, and when you take into account the mileage, its simply astonishing. Rarely does any car, let alone a benz, look that good with 250K + miles on the clock. I love the color combo, and thhe velour is SOOO european.... LOVE LOVE LOVE it... you have a quite a car indeed. My W123 is right up thhere with yours in over all shape, however after living in SF, it has collected its fair share of dings and dents. A major cosmetic rejuvination is in the works.... I plan on having the car re-finished, smoothed of imperfections, wheels re-painted, and installing rear head rests by thhe end of summer. I can tell that you uphold similar values when it comes to working on your car.... somthing along the lines of "do the job right or dont do it at all"... I wish I was on the east coast to see yoour car in person! Keep that thing lookin sharp! Happy Motoring!

Geez, the whay you've talked about it, I would have expected it to look like it had band-aids all over it, and under it too!
You've been holding out, that car is premo, and looks absolutely mint! Good job Hattie! BB....... |

Looks good to me. The way you talk about it I thought it would be terrible. I really like the wheels. That velour must be alot more comfy on cold mornings than leather! Are those new floor mats? I need to get a set. My car has the black interior but the PO bought maroon mats to match the exterior .

Thanks, the pics do gloss over a lot of the imperfections in the paint. But it does look pretty nice, It is still a work in progress. The cloth is nice in the summer, nothing like sitting on hot black leather seats. I like the way leather looks and will probably get it on my next car but cloth is very user freindly. It also seems to wear like steel because it is still in very nice shape as I approch 250k.
Well the clear corners are not that nice they seem to be a very cheap brand. Also the drivers side one is a little lose I will have to see if I can secure it better before it falls off. But they didn't cost me anything so I can't complain. I think Bosch makes better clear corners, I will be checking into those when I get euro lights. I just got all of the parts I needed from Fastlane for a new grill, as soon as the weather clears I will bolt it on. Also I just put on a new sunroof seal today, it didn't come out to well I might have to redo it. Yeah those are new floor mats, just regular dealer mats.

WOW! I envy you. I hope you know Im going to model my 85 300SD after this. I love the wheels. Im thinking of buying a different SD this summer when
I can get some money, just something thats in a little nicer condition and a better color then mine. I don't mind doing the work myself, but Im not preticularly thrilled with the sky blue/navy combo in mine. I like it, but not what I want. Sorry for rambling, GREAT car! |
