IP Adjustment too might help

If it is the M-Style pump there is an adjustement on the back of the pump for max fuel delivery. It allows the rack to move to the stop and most of the time this is at full delivery whenever you put the throttle down on a 240.

On my 75 240D it had the M-Style pump and smoked horribly. I adjusted the max fuel delivery and lost a little power but the smoke was gone.

If your 240 doesn't smoke at takeoff you might be able to add a little more fuel at max delivery and get better performance.

Keep in mind my car was a 75 with an M-Style pump so you need to make sure that this is what you have. The max fuel adjuster is a bolt with a locknut on it on the back of the pump (not to be mistaken with the rack dampener on the MW Pumps on the turbos).

Worth a try anyway. Dial it out a half turn and put the hammer down, if not too much smoke go another half turn and so on.

My gut feeling is that you'd regret selling it.

What would you get for it? $2k? $4K?

You're the original owner. That's worth more than any $ you could get for the car.
