Mercedes Benz in Used Car Lots

I was driving around yesterday and I counted at least a dozen or so older 123's and 126 in used car lots. I just didn't realize that there are so many out there for sale. Suprisingly lots of Diesels. Is this the case in your areas? I wonder how many are in really good condition. Since i'm benzless you really tend to LOOK around.

There's this used car lot here in town by the Reliant Stadium, it's called "Ray Syke's Used Cars" or something like that, they always have quite a few good looking 126s, 124s, and 129s for sale. I mostly see 126s though, they look nice.

Yeah their are a few on the junk dealers lots, I mean used car lots. Most of them are junk; but at one lot their was a nice 560SEL for sale for a decent price. But it was around for 6 months and came back so maybe it wasn't that great. There is also a pretty decent looking 420SEL that has been sitting for a few months. If it is still around in July I may offer them $2k for it and drive it in the winter.
I see very few nice MB's on used car lots.

yeah If I didn't drive and love diesels so much i'd get a 420SEL or a 560SEL, both nice gasoline driven cars.

Hattie, your a pretty good judge on those cars, if it's still hangin around by then you probably should jump on it. Would be a nice project to go along with your SDL. As always you can drive it around in the winter when Diesel jumps up 20cents to the gallon more. Have you checked it out yet? What kind of condition would u rate it?

I would rate the 420SEL as a decent clean driver. If It could be bought for $2k and then I would put another $500 into it to bring it up to snuff. I think it would clean up nice and be a decent winter/commuter car for me for the next 3-4 years.

They are asking $5k for it now but after 6+ months I think they might be willing to bargin. If the oppertunity did present itself I might not even buy it, a smaller fwd car is more of what I need.

I saw about six of them yesterday... oh wait, they were at Pick-N-Steal. There's not too many in the town I'm at, perhaps if I ventured out further there could be, but I own one so who knows...

That seems to be the only other place I see them if they're not on the road.

The real question is this...

If you are driving down the road at 70 mph... how far off the road can you spot a MB grill ?

My limit is about 200 yards.... but that is much farther than I can identify a two wheeled walking Gravely L model....

About 7 years ago w123's, w201's, and w126's were very common sightings at the various Bay Area pre-owned Mercedes specialist dealers.... Theres a dealer in Sonoma- Hunter Motoring, that had nothing but W201's, w124's, and W126's... all in VERY nice shape. W123's and some w116 frequented the lot as well..... how I miss those days of driving down the highway to see a row of shiny mint w123's 201's etc. at a speacialist dealer.

Not too many of em pop up anymore... unless they are junkers being sold on shady run down tinsel strung used car lots. I see alot on the road though so thats nice.

I can usually spot a mercedes grille on the freeway or highway from about 500 feet.... BUT the most common mistake i make is when I am approaching a Volvo 200 series from behind, and im so far away that I can only make out its general shape, size, and major trim elements... those things look almost like a w123 from a distance away! The u close in on em and the bumpers turn completely plastic, the shine from the sun dissipates and reveals that there is no chrome to be found, and that there are volvo badges on the trunk lid. LOL

It's still common though to see 123's, 124's and 126's running down the highways and biways across America today.

I did have a 240D whiz past me about 4 weeks ago here on I20 near downtown Ft Worth, I laughed pretty hard as I was cruising about 70mph already... that 240 musta been turning some hellacious RPM!

There aren't any for sale in any lots I've seen in the Dallas area. I just assumed they must all be over in Cowtown somewhere.
I've been seeing a few on the roads the last couple of weeks. More than normal. I'm ready to be one of them...
