Diesel no start

Hey guys,

My daughter's '84 300 D (turbo) in DC will not start.

Car has sat since November, while she was in Chicago w/boyfriend.

She is now back and car will not start.

Battery replaced, both fuel filters replaced by boyfriend.

Car still no start.

Took car to American (MB dealer in Arlington, VA) who installed new voltage regulator and car ran fine for 1 day. This AM, it failed to start again.

Any ideas as to what to try next?

take it back to them. they should pay for the tow and re-diagnose at no cost to you.

but, since you said they put a vr on it, it wont turn over or what? check the glow plugs. many threads on here covering this.

FYI: I would replace all the fuses also.

Same thing just happended to my '85 300D. One day it just did not start. Changed fuel filters and battery, still nothing.

Turns out all of the glow plugs were bad. My indy thinks the relay went south keeping the plugs all on until they burned out. He said it is very rare to have 5 dead glow plugs all at one time.

$415 later (including tow) ouch!

Any chance you are gelled up as car may have gotten summer fuel prior to late fall storage? Guess the question is how cold has it been in atlanta the last few days?

My Glow Plug Relay went bad. It didn't result in the death of my glow plugs, though.

The symptom was that my glow light on the dash kept coming on at odd times, and my battery kept going dead.

The reason my glow plug relay went bad was that I had washed my engine, and had gotten degreaser and water inside the glow plug relay.

Been there, done that, only I didn't take out my GP relay, I managed to take out 2 alternators before I decided my engine didn't need to be that clean.
