Any forecasts for Gas/Diesel prices this summer?

I didnt stop working on cars in the winter..I was out there on 20 degree nights..I disappeared from the forum because I became fascinated with a Volvo and a SAAB Gas turbos as gas prices went down but reality is about to hit...Summer will be here soon.
I read in the Business section that gas is going to get hefty this summer, maybe hit $2.40/gallon for 87. I guess I will be back to my Diesels very shortly...Does anyone know what Diesel will do this summer?

Diesel should be lower then gas in the summer. It is $2.40 in my area I bet it holds in the $2.50-$3 range.

I remember last spring when I was paying $1.78.

Here in Miami-Diesel is around 2.10 to 2.30/gal. Hard to say what it may go up to with the unknown factors. One of interest to me is what may happen if H. Chavez sells off those 8 gulf coast Citgo Refineries his Venezuelan government owns(and oil experts on wall st. say this is very likely) If we lose this 20% supply the sky is the limit $4 and up. However bad these high prices are, the Silver lining is that it may WAKE up the american public about their horrific fuel wasting ways and demand change. See if those folks driving those huge Gas Guzzling SUVs tooling around town with only one person change their ways. Time will tell. We did not learn our lesson well after the last crisis in the late70s early 80s.

Summer and Diesel

Typically summer diesel prices are lower than gas. Home heating oil and diesel climb in the winter so oil companies can gouge more money out of you. People tend to drive less in the winter, no vacations, so they must maintain the profit level by raising prices elsewhere. Miamimike makes a good point about the last oil "shortage", read as price fixing, but Americans have very short memories. Ask anyone from MA about Ted and Mary Jo. Private swimming lessons are in order..............

Hatterasguy is right

Hatterasguy and I both get Diesal from the same place in Miford and they are the cheapest around. I am thinking it will top off about $2.80-$2.90. I sure hope after getting a valve adjustment done will get me some better mileage. I am at about 26-27 mpg before the adjustment.

I just filled up today $2.35 if I remember correctly. I burn about 18 gallons a week. :o

I am only averaging 22.5, in the summer I get 23.5. I need to change my timing chain and check a few things out, I want 25.

I filled up two days ago and it'd fallen one cent since last time....down to $2.21......I averaged about 22.7mpg with a bunch of freeway driving....it wasn't the most economical driving either, I was doing some very high rpm runs to clean it out for a while :D........plus...I have the 3.07 diff, which is going to get me less anyways. I think once my cv joint boots fail and all that goes downhill I'll locate a 2.88 or 2.47 (preferably) and have it swapped in when I do the cv replacements or something. I'll be using this car for lots and lots of highway travel come next year probably....so it'd be a nice thing....a few extra mpg's and less noise.....

Right now in Arlington, Va. Premium is 3.89 a gallon.

Ha! an old carrameow thread that didn't soar... resurrected!
I think D hit a high of 4.89 around here this summer. it's down around 3.80 right now...

Dee8go 08-26-2008 02:12 PM

It's amazing to see the prices at different times since this thread began.

vstech 08-26-2008 02:29 PM

I like the diesel is cheaper than gasoline thread... it goes back WAAAY farther. it's nearly the top response thread on the forum at the moment... closing fast on andy's sady thread.

Dee8go 08-26-2008 03:09 PM

Boy, you're right, John, over 31000 views on that thread. Post #2 said "Diesel $1.21.9; unleaded regular $1.39.9 in West Michigan ."

Diesel for under $1.40 a gallon! Whoowee, I'd love to see THAT again!

pawoSD 08-26-2008 09:24 PM

Man.....$2.21.....those were the days, I can't believe I typed that only 3 years ago. :o Oh well. Today I paid $4.18......but I did get 25.4mpg...which is pretty good. :D
