Need pics of California 85 SD Air filter Box

Hey Y'all,

For my intercooler project I need to see some pics of an '85 California emissions version of the 300SD. This car has a relocated air filter box setup. If any body has some pictures to post already that would be great or if anyone has this setup and could take some pics that would be great too. I am specifically looking to relocate my airbox to the area behind the passenger headlight and so I need to see detailed pics of the box and intake boot to the turbo so that I can make a decision to buy the setup or not. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Jim

You'll have to modify the rubber boot running form the air can to the turbo intake. I used the original filter setup for a while when I got rid of the CA manifolds and turbo to use a fed version. It was mickey-moused together until I got the regular air filter set up. I still have the CA can if you're interested but you'll have to make your own intake boot because I ruined mine.

Ilietuviai,

am interested in the filter can but I'd sure love to see pics of one mounted in a car.

DG, I never took photos of how it used to look in my car. BTW, I have a 300D but it used the same can as the SD. It has a pointer on the lid showing which way to align it depending if its in a W123 or W126.
Best place to get photos is on ebay from any listing of a CA model and see if they have photos of the engine bay.

On Ebay there are no California emission 126 300SD's right now (though there is one 123 that has the same airbox). Can anyone with an '85 SD take some pics of there air cleaner assembly particularly the rubber duct going from the airbox to the turbo? I need to see if it's restrictive. I also need to see all of the details of the oil breather parts and how the oil gets back into the pan...

Thanks,
Jim

Sorry I have no pics. I converted mine and never looked back. I can tell you that for some reason there is no return hole for the oil breather. I had an '81 parts car and it had a return hole. The only return to the pan was for the turbo.

Does anyone here have an '85 California 300 SD to take pics of the airbox setup? I really need some pics if anyone can help out.

Thanks,
Jim

If I recall it wasn't that complicated. Just that big round cannister behind the passenger headlight. One long tube from turbo to side of cannister. I think the intake of the cannister was a short tube to a vent next to the passneger headlight.

The stock pipe running from the can to the turbo of a non CA model will not match up right. The turbo from the CA model sat up higher than that on the fed model to make room for the oxidizing catalyst (a worthless POS IMO).
Jim, did you get my email about the can?
