Adjust idle speed 300D??????
I cant figure out how to raise my idle speed in my 85 300D turbo......the step by step in a hanes manual is not helping, it mentions an adjustment nut of which I dont seem to have...... the pictures dont look like my throttle linkage?????
Im idling at around 6-700 rpms, should be 8-1000 right? little help?????? |
Isn't it 650 or 675 + or - 50?
Where in Md are you? |
turn that to 1,000 and the cars going to take off on you in gear if you don't stand on the brakes too.
|
Im on the Eastern Shore.........
Well, it sounds like my idle is where it should be I guess.....But man is it rough. if I give a bit more gas, 8-1000 RPMS, it seem stop viberating.....It seems to slide into gear pretty easy at the higher RPMs..... I just changed the fuel filters today, Ill see what that does.....It has 570,000 on it....... |
Adjustment of the governor idle pin on the back of the injection pump will often take care of the rough idle. A search for "governor idle pin" or "rack idle pin" should provide adequate insight.
|
Also look at your motor mounts and maybe even run some purge through the fuel system to clean out your injectors...I am due as well..
570K...impressive :) |
Not in a position to look it up right now, but I'm pretty sure correct idle for a 617 turmo engine is 750 or 800.
|
what do you do with a real rough idle in a 78 that doesn't have a rack dampner ??? injectors are all rebuilt a couple months ago.
|
Where is the rack dampener? Behind the IP or between IP and firewall?
Also, it would be good to see how it looks like. Thanks. Idling at 700rpm but would like to up that a bit more. |
Look for a bolt with a locknut on the rear of the IP, just forward of the oil filter housing. Aside from the shut-off valve, it's about the only thing back there.
|
Tangofox, yes I've seen that one. How in particular do you adjust it? I tried unlocking the outer (rearmost) bolt and fiddled with the middle one. The RPMs didn't change. This is of course with engine running.
Which screw do I turn in or out? My RPMs are around 650-700 but when I start the car it's quite shaky. Sometimes on a stoplight you could feel the shaking, but not much. |
MBeige, is it idleing rough at 700rpm? Stalling at stand? 800rpm is where I have mine cause I run the A/C a lot, but 700rpm should be fine? I guess 700rpm would use less fuel, too, but The OM617 uses very little fuel when just idleing, I have read elsewhere. Fiddle with that adjustment screw some more, I think CCW raised idle, doesn't it?
|
I just saw the previous post. 700rpm and shaking... Do people think the rack damp screw is the place to focus instead??
|
I know my motor mounts need replacing too, but the thing is I often see my idle as low as 600RPM. I was wondering if adjusting the rack screw could increase that at that time (when really warm, after a run--hence the shaking).
I don't know how to adjust the screw, it seems like the middle part is loose when the lock is turned out. Adjusting the rearmost screw CCW (outwards) didn't raise the RPM. The reason I ask is because when you unscrew this, the middle portion is loose and you can easily turn it by hand once you loosen it. Do you turn this CCW as well and then lock it? Like I said I don't know how to do it. Throttle linkage adjustments have also somehow fine tuned the idle a bit, but not much. ALDA is tweaked 1 full turn CCW and that helped the idling. Does not stall at stand but you can feel the shaking. |
The "middle section" of the rack dampner deal is the locknut. The outer most part is the bolt itself.
If you are curious about it, take it out and have a look see. Won't hurt anything. Just need to find the right setting. Just be aware that it won't help your shaking if you have unbalanced injectors or other problems. |
