85 300D--has anyone pulled the "big" oil pan without removing the engine?

Its March and I'm still thawing out and I'm too cold to go down to the garage to look. On an 85 300D,has anyone pulled the "big" oil pan without removing the engine? By "big" I mean not the small lower oil pan, but the major one bolting to the bottom of the Block. I need to do some rod bearings and i was hoping i could do it without yanking the entire engine..
