w210 Rear Brakes

is there any way to determine whether my w210 E300 has the single pin or double retaining pins for the rear braking system without looking at it by removing the wheel?

I'm looking into replacing the rear discs with a set of Zimmerman's, replace the pads with a set of Textar's and replace the rear parking brake shoes as well.

It's still cold here in New England and I don't want to have to remove the rear wheel just to "look". Lazy some say. but my back always acts up when working in the cold, then I can barely walk for the next week.

Anyone ever install the Zimmerman's on their w210? In the future I'd love the replace the brake fluid and install the stainless steel brake lines. They apparently make a big difference in pedal feel when hot.

I will keep an eye on this thread for my friend. He has 153k on the original rear pads and rotors on his E300D. Their do this spring. Are the Zimmerman cross drilled? And where do you get these stainless lines? He will probably be getting a set of wheels for it and cross drilled rotors look better.

Thumbs up

I am getting ready to order parts for mine. So this morning I looked through the wheel at the caliper, without removing the wheel I could see it was a 2 pin. You should be able to look at yours without removing the wheel.

BTW. since it's my thread, I wanted to say that I love the Redline diesel fuel addtive. It ROCKS. MY engine runs smooth and rarely knocks..... I'm impressed. Although I have been using full dosage for every tankful...

if i remeber correctly, it has the double retaining pins. The rear calipers are a duel piston fixed caliper set up while the front has the one piston floating caliper set up...go figure. I would like to up grade the front caliper on mine to at least a two piston.

Buy Brembo's Joe they would look so cool behind some Brabus wheels!

What about E55 brakes? Michakaveli has anyone on MB world tried those? They should pretty much bolt right on.

They would just bolt on, but cost of pads and the discs when maintainence is required is a lot more expensive than the stock braking system.

How much worse can they be then Brembo's? I mean the guy in the MBworld thread spent $900 on a brake job! When I did all of mine it cost me like $350 and I used ATE discs they arn't cheap.

Edit I just checked Fastlane for E55 brakes. Front discs are $310 each, but the rears seem stock they are only $65 each.

A front pad set runs $253!

E55's brakes would cost a bit.

The Zimmerman discs came in yeterday and they look sweet!

I'll take a picture of them tonight and post. They look very high quaility, just like OEM rotors with the x-drilled pattern. Zimmerman hence, Made in Germany engraved.
