Now I know why my N/A 300TD was so fast and quiet on the Highway
As part of my spring cleaning I pulled the four snow tires off the 300TD. After I put on the 205/70-14 summer tires I stood back and noticed something strange. The summer tires looked much smaller than the snow tires even though they both are 205/70 profile tires. Sure enough out on the highway this morning at about 75 mph the motor sounded a little louder and I could tell it was turning over faster. This is giving me more incentive to find a 3.07 diff. Anyone in the the tristate area have a good one they want to sell?

That 3.65 rear end spins up in a hurry doesn't it??? My wagon is SCREAMIN' at over 70, and I think my speedo is 10mph off too.
**edit** 3.65, 3.69...whatever it takes! (which movie does that recall, for extra credit)

Hummmm...
I cant wait to find out what the 0-60 difference is between the 3.07 (My 300TD) and the 3.69 (240D) once they both run! If only I was better at math, I'm sure I could figure it out. |

For the grand prize
JimmyL, the movie you speak of is Mr. Mom. They were discussing the handgun caliber.
So what do I win from FastLane????

Unless you're using a GPS for your speedo you shouldn't see any variation between speed and rpm with different sized tires. You will be going faster with the taller tires though.

The summer tires sure track better than the winter snow tires. I guess because the chunky snow tires have a less stable footprint. Even though the engine is reving slightly higher the summer tires ride much smoother. Fortunately even screaming along at 80 mph there is no vibration from the drivetrain.
