Identfing rear ends

HI
I thought I posted this yesterday but it did not show up so..

ON my 220D hot rod (617+five speed) I have two 220's one has a third member that has alu casing and cooling fins the other has a steel housing

How do I tell what the gear ratios are in them I am sure that the steel housing is stock for the year (1969) but the other is?

Thanks

Pic is of the one with cooling fins ( hey what do I know!)

Chuck

The one sure way ( since internal gears can be changed ) is to jack up the rear of the car, place a mark on the driveshaft and turn it 10 times... count the exact number of rotations which the tire makes.. divide both by 10 and you have your ratio.

We randomly delete new guys posts just to see if they are paying attention... LOL

Identifying differential ratios

If you don't do 'gazintas', you can look on the left rear of the housing. The final drive ratio number is usually stamped into the differential housing.
