Angry good and bad news

I changed out my glow plugs and it fired right up. thats the good news. I was so happy that I jumped in for a cruse only to find that my trans decided to stop changing gears. I hope its just a clogged filter. Please be the filter

Maybe you knocked a vacuum line off. I would check that first.

car shifts with NO vacume...vacume just softens the shifts...a stuck in gear problem is something far different.

If its the 1980, does it still have the mechanical adjust for shift points? If that got knocked loose, it could be keeping it from shifting. I havent seen a 240D past 1980 so I cant help if its the 83.

When I replaced the trans in my 240D and learned to adjust the shift points, my first try was way off, it was in 4th gear at 18 mph... and I was in traffic on a test drive...a little embarrassing...

Check the kickdown switch under the accelerator pedal.

It may be stuck down.

Yeah it does shift but like a Pro-stock racer at max rpms. If you don't rev the engine out you might be inclined to believe the trans is not shifting. Start with the simple "s" first....
