What does this button do??? EURO 123

Hello All,
Thank you in advance for you knowledge and help. I have an 85' 300D EURO (German???); can somebody please tell me what this switch controls. On the reverse there is one single (power?) electrical connection at the top and two vacuum lines below that. The manual calls it a "schakelaar van koplampregel-systeem bij een automobiel zonder niveauregeling". I am assuming that it has something to do with the HVAC system (manual style similar to that on the 240D's) but who knows.
Thanks,
Matt

Ooo! The headlight angle adjustment switch! Thats what it is, its used to adjust the angle that your lowbeams face the road, moving it up and down you will be able to see the lights moving out on the road (that is, if its working properly), its pretty cool. Our diesel wagon we rented when we were in Germany two summers ago also had this feature, it was fun to play with , and also helpful for finding an optimum lighting angle on the road.

Bummed

I'm bummed; when they imported the car they changed the lights and thus took out the adjusters. The vacuum lines are still there all the way to the light housing but are capped off. This Sucks! But at least I know what it does. Does anybody know what language the manual is in??? I thought German but the Goggle translator couldn’t understand any of the words.
Thanks,
Matt

Oh that sucks that they took out the original headlights. The language is Danish. schakelaar van koplampregel-systeem bij een automobiel zonder niveauregeling = switch of koplampregel system at a motorcar without level regulation which in essence is saying: switch for the light adjustment system of the car without autoleveling, which I think means the suspension leveling system such as what is found on the wagons. With springs if you have a load the lights will be higher, and thus with that switch you can angle them properly when the car is loaded down.....good stuff!!!

Some aftermarket euro actually have the vacuum adjusters, although my 123's did not, the ones for my 124 do and my friends 190 did as well. He converted his to the euro style and installed the vacuum adjust system on his car, take a look, he diagrammed the procedure on his car http://www.geocities.com/audi_tech_rs4/

(apparently since posting this link the site has had too many visits, keep checking back and it should be up when geocities lifts the time limit on it)

I’m still bummed that they don’t work (it would have been really really really cool); but I am very happy to know that my car is Danish and not German (for no other reason than knowing my cars roots).
Thank you pawoSD, lofat , and all!

I had a euro 123 with the adjuster that worked. Problem was, I didn't know what it did and drove around with them in the raised position for about a year. My son actually got a ticket because the lights were too bright.

Actually, the way the switch is SUPPOSED to work is that "0" (the HIGHEST setting) is normal, and 1, 2, and 3 are meant to lower the lamps as heavier and heavier loads are placed in the rear seat and trunk.

I agree... I also read somewhere that it makes sense to set the 'Normal' position of the headlights on the '1' position - thus giving you 2 settings to lower and one to raise.
