Electrical Help

I have an 85 300sd which I got after I creamed a deer with my 300D, also an 85.

I am having problems electrically in several areas:
1. Door switches do not work on driver side, fron or back.
2. Odometer stuck on 188666
3. ABS warning light always on
4. I have a short somewhere and everytime I signal for a left turn, I blow a fuse andlose that package (including blower on heater and that was not good in New England this winter)

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Not all electrical....

The door locks are vacuum operated. If it's the window switches you are describing, they are electrical.

The odometer is not electrical. It's mechanical.

The ABS warning light should be checked into.

The turn signal issue sounds like it might be a bad ground somewhere in that circuit.

That might not be much help, but every little bit counts.

Cream of Deer soup? hmm...

for the abs, first thing to do is locate the plugs for the wheel speed sensors, I dont remember the exact values (1300 ohms sound right?) and compare the resistance of each of them to one another.

thats the best way to start unless you can locate an MB pulse counter and code book.

124's are known for breaking wires in the door jambs so I don't see it too much of a stretch for a 126 to do the same, check there first.

1. Door switches do not work on driver side, fron or back.
Please describe how they are not working, what are they not doing? It is easy to pull the switch out and test with a meter.

2. Odometer stuck on 188666
Mechanical break in the odometer gearing or wheels. Seach on Odometer Repair for ideas. Involves removing the instrument cluster.

3. ABS warning light always on
Sensors, or OVP relay are possible. More diagnosis is needed

4. I have a short somewhere and everytime I signal for a left turn, I blow a fuse...
Unplug left front and rear sockets. Not just the bulb, but the connnector to the bulb socket. See if the fuse blows. Plug in the front bulb, try again. Plug in the rear, try again. This may help narrow down the location of a short.

Best Regards,
Jim

The best thing you can do with any electrial problem, is treat it from the sorce with a voltmeter and move foward. Don't skip around go from point A and go to point B, testing at each point where the wire enters and exits any connection. once you reach a point where no electricty is preasant then you can iceolate the shortage. There are many kinds of electronic devises that will tell you what kind of problem you are looking for, but nothing beats the old way, and that is the cheapest way as well.
