Stop lever detail
What is the tab with the circular hole for? its visible in the lower left portion of this photo...

Shuts the engine off. You will need it when your vaccum shut off on the IP fails.

Haha.....sorry I know the lever is the stop lever. I currently use it every time the engine is running.....I'm wondering why the stop lever has that tab on it with the circular hole in it? It looks like an attachment point for a cable or something.....

If I remember correctly that's where the 240D idle adjust cable attaches to the accelerator linkage.

There are quite a number of different versions of the stop lever. The idle adjustment cable or (early version) cruise control cable would attach there.
