What added gauges do you have and where did you mount them?
 

I wanted to put in a boost gauge and a gauge to monitor my veg oil temps and mebbe should I put something else?
Thinking about where to mount 'em....
On my truck there is a pod that fits on the A-pillar that'll handle three gauges. Anything like this for our Benzes?

A couple of people here have mounted them in the ashtray. Sounds like a good use of the space to me. You might want to add an EGT as well.

Boost...exhaust Pyrometer and a voltmeter where the ashtray I never use was.

veg_burner, the hard part is getting the old retaining rings to let loose. I found that they rotate, you grab on the back of the unit, then spin the front to release them. Then you carefully push the vents back, it is real easy to pop off that rubber connector, so be gentle and check it often. Make sure you have turned the vent to "off" so you don't have hot air blowing around back there...
And if I want to change back, everything is right there...

boneheaddoctor, now you have a real sweet setup there.

I use sheet aluminum for the panel..covered by a piece of textured Thermoplastic......I used scrap but you can buy it from Parts express.

Won't say it was easy...because it wasn't.....required cutting away the plastic pocket behind the Ashtray. But it works , looks nice and its not in the way.

Might work on a W123 if you are a non-smoker. Mine as you can tell is on a W116 300SD

I also discarded the Zebrano ashtray.
I cut a piece of steel and mounted my Boost gauge (fuel pressure), fuel selection switch and 2 cigarette lighter sockets (12v accessories). It is covered with a piece of blue vinyl upholstery from my MB parts car. Console wood suffered, but is in poor condition anyway.

I'm going to have a good slurm of gauges on my 240D when I get it running.

Boost 0-20psi
Pyro
intake air temp
engine oil temp
..and a few others

I'm going kind of oddball with these, I'll be mounting them with an aluminium bracket on the non-moving part of the steering column.

I've thought of others:
Turbocharger shaft tach
Intake temp before and after the intercooler
Exhaust pressure
battery/alternator volts
Coolant water pressure
Fuel tank temp
An hourmeter wired to an 8psi switch on the manifold

You got enough eyeballs to watch all those gauges AND the road too?

I am 18 and love to look at shiney things...espicially ones that move when you go vroom..
However I think that is just a tad bit excessive as you can't do much about intake air temperatures, fuel temperatues, exhaust pressures, etc.

I think the general consensus is for gauges you can read, affect, and are important besides the oil/water/fuel gagues on the dash is boost (not REALLY needed becuase you set it once and check it periodically...not constantly...but even I have one..it moves :-D) pyrometer (important) and a volt meter.

Its fun to watch a car warm up and cool down and go fast and slow however some things should be checked every so often...not ever second you drive you auto :-D

But thats just me...I like my two little gauges... (boost and pyro)

BTW those two gauges are mounted in cups and everything is attached to the speaker grill as my w126 has a rare mint dash

I say the more the merrier.
I have driven big rigs often which had all kinds of guages; just like anything else, you get used to monitoring them in a safe manner.
Scanning the guages, it is called.
And you end up knowing a lot about the condition of the vehicle as you drive it. They make you a better driver, no doubt.
