I just had to share this milestone with you guys (see pic)... 200K miles! :D

Dervman 03-30-2005 10:31 AM

CONGRATULATIONS  :2thumbsup :beerchug:

Welcome to the 200k+ Club :D

BTW How come your Temperature readout is in deg.C ??

boneheaddoctor 03-30-2005 10:34 AM

Hope both of mine see that mark without significant investment required.

dannym 03-30-2005 11:00 AM

Yes Congratulations!! :dancefool

Good thing you had a camera handy!! Hope you don't start work at 7:00 because your gonna be late.
Was that you I saw on the highway taking pictures doing 80 mph??

JK

My temp reads on Deg C also. It's not that hard to convert to deg F.
F=C x 1.8 + 32

Fimum Fit 03-30-2005 11:05 AM

On March 17, 2004, after I arrived home,

I borrowed my wife's digital camera and then drove around the neighborhood for about 10 minutes so that I could take a picture of the odo on our '85 300TD when it turned to 333333. But I'm the third owner and could only claim credit for about 24,000 of that.

mplafleur 03-30-2005 11:42 AM

Both my cars read in degrees C.

Easy to convert.

Take reading x 2
Subtract 10% of that
Add to 32

For example:

If reading is 14, multiply by 2 to get 28.
Now subtract 2.8 and you get 25.2, or about 25.
Add to 32 and the result is 57 degrees F

Fimum Fit 03-30-2005 11:46 AM

The problem here is that you shouldn't try to convert:

that's what gets people all uptight about measuring systems other than their own. If you just get used to what 20c feels like, you don't have to calculate that you feel the same as you would at 68f. And the same goes for 130 kph vs 80.6 mph.

That's why we have so many people in this country who can't speak English.

I am surprised that so many US cars have Celsius Temerature readouts.
My SDL from Texas has a Deg.F readout and I have been thinking about changing it for a Deg.C gauge.

another low mileage diesel MB, sigh.

andersbenz 03-30-2005 12:10 PM

200,000 miles--COOL!

rmmagow 03-30-2005 01:10 PM

Where's the temp thing come from? Can this be bought as a seperate part? I'd like one in my 123.
Thanks.

I'm an American. I drive in Miles, I measure small distances in inches, feet and yards, I tell temperature in Farenheit.

I speak some German and Hindi, but I think in English.

Sorry, it'll always be a conversion for me....

billrei 03-30-2005 03:25 PM

Congrats, your car just lost about $500 to $1,000 resale value....

pawoSD 03-30-2005 04:24 PM

My dad's 83SD rolled over to 257000 this morning. :D

Well if he's not planning on selling it, it doesn't much matter.

I might trade you my C for your F....

Not sure what all has to be removed, the sensor, cable and display unit?

My bulb(s) burnt out a while back but while it's out it shouldn't be a really tough replacement job...
but then again I've gotten pretty good at estimating Fahrenheit temperatures based on the degrees Celcius anyway.

Some are pretty basic and can be / have been memorized:
-20 deg C = -4 deg F - if it gets this cold I might plug in the block heater
-10 deg C = 14 deg F - starts fine without the block heater but why
-5 deg C = 23 deg F my 300D wouldn't start at this temperature
0 deg C = 32 deg F - watch out for black ice (love that +0.0 or -0.0, the F display on my 300TE just shows "32 deg F")
10 deg C = 50 deg F - moderately warm, nice - spring!!!
20 deg C = 68 deg F - standard room temperature for lots of stuff
25 deg C = 77 deg F - warm room temperature
30 deg C = 86 deg F - tropical.. at these temps I drive the gas car cuz the AC works :)
anything over this is just too hot :sun_smile

just remember that 10 deg C = 18 deg F so I do some math in my head while driving... keeps the mind occupied

That's OK, I don't plan on selling it. The car has been in our family since new (it was my mom's). She gave it to me at 182K and I've enjoyed the hell out of wrenching on it it and getting back to a very solid daily driver. The car for me is a dependable decent looking ride that I can drive hard and put all my commute miles on. From what I tell, if you do very rigourous maintenance, these cars pay you back mile after mile.

My nissan is so dorked with it won't pass emmissions so it's a show / track car at this point it and stays off the road except to keep the battery charged (it's a backup to the 84 300SD I guess). The CLK55 is a garage queen... in 4 years I think I got caught out in the rain once. It's just a weekend car.

As to JimmyL's question - officially our house is in Lewisville, really just north of Carrollton.

Diesel Giant 03-31-2005 09:56 AM

Just play with your unfamilar measurement types until you get comfy with them. Its what I did with 24 hour time on my watch and now degrees C in the benz and whenever I get near a thermomter. Even the PC status program I use has degrees C displayed. I am a chem major...go figure

Umm this might be a little easier:

F degree readout for your Temp gauge. Oh and all you gotta do is pull out the Instrument Cluster and unscrew 2 screws to change the gauge out.

When you say Bilingual do you mean English and American?

pawoSD 09-27-2006 07:18 PM

I just rolled over 247k last night when I got home from school at midnight. I got home, parked, and looked at it, and it said a perfect "247000" I was very pleased :D

My dad is only 24.5k away from 300,000! He drives hundreds of miles a week, so he'll be there in no time!

The big event about me hitting 247k is that this means I have driven the car 40k since I bought it. (had 207,128 on it when I left the point of purchase) Not bad! I've only had it 3 years and 2 months...:D

I just calculated that you will hit 1,000,000 miles in about 59.612 years at your current rate. ;)

I'm really bored. :D

pj67coll 09-27-2006 07:33 PM

400

My 240D's currently at 379905. I expect to be at 400000 within the next year or so. I'm looking forward to being able to capture the event either on video or with a still picture that I'll post.

biobenz240d 09-27-2006 08:53 PM

260000 mi. for an '83 240D

I'll hit 260,000 miles tomorrow:D

Matt L 09-27-2006 11:25 PM

I hit 200K in my 210 not long ago. Unfortunately, I haven't been getting the pleasure of driving that car lately, since I prefer getting chauferred in a Jetta. We recently turned 1700 miles on that one...

The Jetta is great on fuel, getting over 42 overall, before it's even broken in. But it will never have the comfort of the Benz. On the other hand, if it gets hit on the near future, we'll probably come out better on the insurance payout on the new Jetta than on a 10 year old MB.
