A few Questions about 91 300d

Hi Folks:

I have just purchased a 91 300D with 115000 Km, and have a couple of questions:

1. Did the model come with Manual seats also?
2. Did all the models have the outside temperature gauge?
3. What sort of MPG are you getting with your 300 D

Would appreciate your feedback

Hmmm

I do not recall ever seeing a 1991 300D with manual seats.
Yes, I think they all had the outside temp gauge.

#1: I don't think so - at least not in the U.S..
#2: Every one I have seen has it
#3: First and only tank I got 26mpg (mostly city).

Congratulations on your purchase!

Thanks for the reply folks. The car is a Canadian car, and I am assuming that the Canada version had the manual seat controls and Driver's side Airbag only.. My outside temperature gauge does not work anymore. THe screen is blank. Is that a comman problems in these cars?

My 91 300D is a Canadian version and it has electronic seat adjustment. I think it was an option, electronic and heated seats, along with the pass. side airbag. Those were listed on the original order form for the car.

Yes.
The rare ones still work.
Most have the LCD display die.
I am looking for a new LCD for my 1985 300SD.

Thanks for the reply. How do you fix the blank display problem? DO I need a new probe or need to change the LCD?

Hello, congratulations on your new purchase! I believe you posted about buying this car before...is it the 1 owner beige 91 300D from autotrader?

Anyways I believe only the W201 Mb 190s came with manual seats to North America.
The outside temp gauge was also found on most if not all MBs made for NA market.

I dont know about the OM602 milage but our 95 E300D with OM606 engine gets between 10 - 11 L / 100 km in winter months. In warmer days I usually get 9.5 L /100 km. All of the above is usually 70% city driving and rest highway. My best milage was 8.4L/100 km in summer, most highway but with heavy foot and AC blasting.

I don't see too many W124 diesels in Toronto. Its really rare to find a mint diesel on autotrader. I looked for about 1 year before we found the E300.

Have you checked out mbcanada.com ? There is a lot of guys from GTA.

Do you have any pics

Yes the car is in mint shape. The owner was an old man, who could not drive anymore. I will post some pics once I get it safety done. It just needs a new front muffler for it to be certified. I drove it from Ottawa, and the ride was superb.

my outside temp gauge was out, then i figured out that the wire to the sensor was stripped and broken, put it back together with some electrical tape and its great, cheapest repair ever! the sensor is just a little metal ball on the end of a black wire mounted on the back of the front bumper cover.

i get about 24-26 mpg city and 32-36 mpg highway

My latest trip got me 31 mpg or about 13.1 km/L with about 100km city driving and 700km highway. Not as good as I was hoping.

I made a conversion web page because I was always getting tired of guessing approximate conversions in my head. The URL is below. I hope some other people find it useful. You can go either way (MPG to km/l and back again).

How fast do you drive on the highway to get 32+mpg? I am at 3,000rpm at 75mph and I don't think I am getting nearly that good of mileage from my car, which is identical to yours.

Thanks,

I just got about 32mpg on my last tank (13.6 km/L) driving 120 km/h most of the time which is about 2750 rpm for me. I don't ever do much better than that, only slightly.

Congrats on your purchase. There are few 2.5Ts on this board.

My '91 300D 2.5T gets around 30 mpg in Los Angeles and up to 36 mpg on the road. The last highway tank, using CA fuel doing between 70 and 75 mph, got 33.4 mpg.

At 247K, temp guage still works. The car has power seats and a driver's airbag. It's also in excellent condition.

Thanks,
32mpg at 85mph
34mpg at 75mph
35-36 at 65 mph

that last one is just a guess, i never actually go that slow! dont know the rpms. those are also from before i got my turbo working, not sure if there would be a change + or -

another thing about the outside temp gauge, the AC uses that data to determine how hot/cold it should blow inside to get to the set temperature. if its not getting anything, it stays the same.
