leaking Cv shaft shaft
I replaced the CV shafts last weekend to correct a vibration issue. In doing so, I managed to create a oil leak in on of them on the outboard boot. I have ordered another shaft to replace it with, which should get here next week. My question is can I run it for a week, and may be put 5-700 miles on it. or should I be replacing it with an old one just to be safe. planning a 300 mile trip this weekend, and I am in the middle of a oil cooler line/motor mount R&R, and dont really want to drain the rear differental again and then do it a third time while correcting mistake.

I don't think it will be a problem at all based on my experience as follows:
I've driven for long periods of time (months) with a rip in the boot. After the CV joint started making its awful noise, I shot greased into it, taped it up and drove another couple of months. I've found that one can do this two or three times before the axle is too far gone. Then I replace them. Others may have a differing experience but I wouldn't have a concern at all. Don
