220d from cincinnati

dont know if many of you saw the 1966 200d black car that was on ebay, just had to tell some one about this old one.
i sorta felt that there was a lot of bs about how it was advertised,so went to take a look and finally bought it. i honestly believe the story, car was in storage for the 28 years, dont know how long since the last drop of fuel got burnt, but after taking the injection pump apart and cleaning the red slury out(no fuel was being pumped to any cylinder)purged the injector lines and be darn the old thing started up .
just had to tell some one, will probably take me 2-3 days to get all the leaks fixed and brakes working, will update after the road test.

Thumbs up Nice

Kind of liked cars from that period as drove them when they were pretty new. Build quality seemed amazing at time but only may be my memory. Drove only 220 gassers all six cylinders. My early seventys stuff does not seem to incorporate the same quality of build. In fact crude by comparison in some ways. Anyways really loved the early ones i owned. Hope you enjoy yours.

I thought the 220 were 4-cyl, the 250 and 280 were 6-cyl. Oh well I could be wrong.

thanks for the encouragement, and you are right about keeping out of trouble as all the spare time is either spent fixing or trying to find out how to fix the defective items. i know one thing for sure, this site has helped me to learn about the mercedes and if i can help anyone please ask.

Old MB models

The 220s were 6cyl(gas), the 190s were 4cyl (gas), and the diesels were the same somewhat plainer body as the 190 gas (190D, 200D, 220D, 240D)

All I can remember is at some point much later the 230 a four cylinder gas was introduced as well. Their may have been a 200 four cylinder gas before that possibly I believe. Always was a 190 four cylinder gas I think perhaps replacing the 170 and 180 gas as the displacement grew. One difference way back then if you did not feel you wanted to repair the problem yourself even some of the dealers were reasonable for service. Seems to have changed a little bit now. Last year passing through bangor maine stopped by the dealer for price on front wheel alignment and it was 180.00. Customer ahead of me in line was paying around 550.00 to have something in dash changed that struck me as relatively minor at time. Wish of course I still had some of those earlier cars today in the shape they were in back then. Suspect the 250 and 280 six cylinder cars did not appear until mid sixties. Although the 300 series goes back quite a ways I think. Oh yes, If i remember think gas was five gallons for a dollar in states and three gallons (slightly larger quantity in the imperial gallon) for a dollar in canada. Price remained constant for a lot of years as there was basically no inflation in economy for ten years. Only wages seemed to go up.
