What is SLS?
Where did you find it?
Sounds like you have something pretty unique there - way to go.

Self Leveling Suspension (hydropneumatic suspension)...same as the TD has except this is a 240D.

Paul Lange gave me a heads-up on this Ft Worth car when it appeared about a month ago on the MBCA forum. There was another 'buyer' in Michigan that wanted it for the tranny (just like me) but declined purcahse after their 'research' indicated that it was a 'normal' transmission, whatever that is. I looked at the pic of the shifter and that was enough for me...I figured if I got to Ft Worth and the car only had 4 gears and a 5-speed knob, I would take my money and go back home. I drove it this afternoon. It definitely has five gears.

Sounds like a rare car to have in the U.S., a 123 with ABS, and a sedan body with SLS on it, and to top it off, a five speed. It's a shame it's losing it's five speed. Are you going to put the four speed from Marlene in it and continue to drive it?

Thumbs up How about

Rear fog lights. My Euro wagon has one, below the left tail light. Nothing quite like a Euro Benz. Headlight washers and wipers, Vacuum adjustable headlights, etc........

It would almost be a shame to 5-speed out of it. Still would be a sweet car with a 4-speed replacement.

I second that. If it is in good shape it is a keeper.

Leave it alone!
That car is worth something and if these cars ever become collectors items, that'll be one of the more sought after ones.

But if you still want to hack it up, after you do so, just send it to Houston, and I'll take care of it... provided you put the four speed in it. You don't want to strain it on those awful steep Austin hills.

Smile Poll

Perhaps we should put the question of keeping R Leo's Euro 240D intact to a (nonbinding) poll?

I don't know what R. Leo is planning but I'd take the 5 speed out and put it in a 300D. SLS is kind of a pain in the ass anyways. I always admired 240D's for their simplicity.
