Question on EGR
1 Attachment(s)
The Vacuum line connecting my EGR valve got itself completely plugged recently. According to what I have been reading, this might be an advantage as far as performance and fuel economy is concerned. My question is:
How much, if any, will the emission test be affected. Should I make sure the vacuum to the EGR is restored before the test?? 80 300 SD 116; 81 D engine. Thanks in advance, Willie(Poor Soul) :) |
Since every state has a different test, with different limits, it's impossible to tell if the vehicle will pass the test without the EGR connected.
If it fails the test, it will fail due to high NOx emissions. In this case, you would need to restore proper function to the valve to get the vehicle to pass the test. |
EGR question
Sorry Brian , Should have mentioned State of Connecticut and I believe its an opacity test, Thanks, Willie(Poor Soul) :)

I'm sure Hattie could tell you if it will pass without any EGR.

The inspection station I took mine to didn't even ask me to open the hood. I spent the day before putting all the crap back on to make it look right. I didn't make it functional though. :D

He did pop the hood to count the cylinders! :D He thought it was 5 the 6th threw him off. I have the egr vac line still hooked up, but somehow an aluminum plate got sandwiched in their! :D |
WA's is also a joke but we only(?) have to pay $15. :P

Thanks guys for your responses. Seems to me that to be on the safe side it would be the thing to do to remove the plugged line before the e-test and see if it gets plugged up again after. I think its amazing how these egr malfunctions keep coming up. Cheers! Willie (Poor Soul) :)

Willie,
Why don't you tru to pass the test the way it is. If it diesn't pass then you can try cleaning out the EGR. P E H |
Mine has a chunk of something wedged in the vacume line and darned if I can't get it out.... :D
I am kicking around swapping a pre egr intake and exhaust manifold over to it however. My state has no Diesel inspections.......yet anyway.... |
Mine passed recently and they did not open the hood. If they did, they would have seen someone's handiwork, Brian, but I seriously doubt these fellas would have known what they were looking at anyway. :rolleyes2
