W123 Rythmic Wheel Squeal when Turning
There is a rythmic high-pitched squeal coming from the front drivers-side wheel, when I'm driving slowly and only when I'm turning slightly to the left.
It's not a "constant" squeal, it is rythmic with the turning of the wheel. I don't hear it if I'm going fast, and I don't hear it if I'm turning to the right. It just started squealing today. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this...? Thanks, - Patrick |
I might put a jack under it, and turn the wheel by hand to see if I could re-create that noise. My first guess/shot in the dark, would be a slightly warped rotor combined with worn brake pads. But, like I wrote, that is off the top of my head, and without engaging too many neurons.

I jacked up the car when I got home from work, and looked around underneath. It appears to be a slightly warped rotor. Must have been some crud in there yesterday, because it never squealed before, and it didn't squeal today. IMHO, having a classic MB that squeals is like having a dirty Corvette. There is a higher standard here, and you just don't let it go. Thanks! - Patrick |
