190D Trans Problems...

I have a 1984 2.2 190D that I have some trans problems with and was hoping for some insight :)

Noticed that the trans was shifting a bit harder for a few days and if I didnt come to a complete stop and sit for a couple seconds, trans would take off in first gear(as opposed to 2nd witch is usual for these).

Stopped at a stop light and when I accelerated the trans was in first, but when it went to shift to 2nd, the engine just revved up like it was in nuetral.

I let off the accelerator and depressed it again and it gave a kinda quick shudder and went into 4th gear. The shudder felt like it was shifting through 2nd and 3rd gears real fast. Car ran fine in 4th, no feeling of slipping. But when I had to stop again, same thing.

Got it home, checked fluild, a little low about 1/2 quart and no burnt smell. Topped it off and tried it again after it had colled off. It shifted better the first time them same thing after warming up.

Filter and fluid was changed almost exactly 6 months ago. Had been noticing that on first start or time of heavy traffic when I have to brake alot, that the brakes were losinig the power boost, as if the vacum wasnt enough.

Works been h*ll lately and havnt had time to look into this yet, so I've been driving my van. I'm a fairly competent "shade tree" mechanic but am more familiar with Cheverolets than Mercedes.

Been doing some searching here and another site for possible cures. Could a Loss of vacume cause this? I read sometihg about a B2 spring/valve. Does the 190d trans have this?

Any help would be appreciated. If worse comes to worse, anyone recomend a place in the Houston area that can rebuilt or carries new/used transmissions for MB?

You are going to need to familiarize yourself w/ the MB diesel tranny vacuum system. I am sure that your vacuum set up will not be too different than that of w123 diesel of the same age. Search the forum here. There is a ton of info on these trannny vacuum problems. If you are losing the brake power boost to, you either have a major vac leak or the vacuum pump has gone south on you.
This is all assuming that vacuum is your prob. I obviously can't tell you that it is. I've never had a vac system go bad and cause quite what you've described, but it is the easiest (and definitley the cheapest) thing to check before you got too involved. It could possibly be a B2 piston issue too. Research that here as well and compare to your problem.
I'm sure someone else will chim in and help you out as well.
Try the searches and see if that gets you headed in a better general direction.
Cheers,
