Replaced engine mounts and tranny mount

And have a funny story to add at the end.
This job is not bad at all. I have been lucky in one way with my wagon as it is not at all rusty, so bolts and nuts haven't been a problem. Dont forget to detach the linkage from firewall to the throttle linkages. Bolts from the bottom were easy, but jacking up the motor delayed me briefly.(I didn't have to loosen my engine shocks as they are not currently on the wagon. Driver side holding bracket needs to be welded back into place) When I would jack the motor via a block of wood across the oil pan, the whole front of the car would raise up on the suspension, so I would lower it and look for what must still be connected. Turns out I just had to keep on jacking, and motor finally raised. After bottom bolts are out and engine is lifted, just pull metal cover off over mounts and then remove two 6mm allens. Upon re installation, it was a little difficult lining up the bottom bolts with the corresponding hole but just keep after it. Tranny mount is easy really. Two ten mm on bottom, 19mm nut on top, and 6mm allen through the center. I had to loosen the four 17mm cross member bolts and drop it a little to get top threaded part of mount into place. Oh yeah, If you remove that cross member, I don't think you have to jack up the tranny. Here is the funny part, and it is humor at my expense. While I'm under the wagon in the garage doing the engine mounts(this evening after dark), one of the cats comes cruising into the garage with either a normal rat or a monster mouse in his mouth. Well, that little SOB got loose, and headed under the car with me!!     I screamed like a pantie wearing little girl, I'm embarrassed to say, and cracked my head on the block of wood that was pushing up on the oil pan. But I got myself out from under that car pronto. As it was running at me it started to appear more beaver-sized than mouse-size. I don't mind mice normally, but I sure don't want to be under the car with one! If we can't bust on ourselves, than we can't really bust on others I guess. Jimmy (my head hurts.....) |

 LMAO! :D :D :D
That is too funny! and thanks for that description of the mounts, I have been somewhat dreading the fact that I have to do mine soon... |

I just did mine today....took a while, was dirty as heck, and not fun getting the back bolt in for the driver side mount, took forever. I didn't disconnect my linkage when I lifted the engine, I checked it and there was no strain on it or anything, it moved freely...
My head hurts too! I smacked it on the hydraulic lift holding up the engine when I carelessly shoved myself back under after grabbing a tool.....it hurts! Oh! Even better....I had the big bolt that goes up inside the frame for the mount fall out suddenly from the darkness when I was about to grab it with a magnet wand I had....it landed right on my lower lip!! OW!! So needless to say I continued working with a very swollen, oil flavored....lower lip...... |

Just the family cat evening up the score for some forgotten mysery you inflicted on him at one time or another in my opinion. Did you have him neutered? Bet the cat is still smiling today. :D

LOL, No rodent or other critter of any form would come near me if I were under my car. Not unless they too wanted to be coverd in coolant, lubricant, diesel, fuel, and auro tranny fluid simultaneously....
	 |

Good reason to wear tight pants.....the little critter could run right up your pants leg........
I'll bet that would make you do an irish jig. |

Note to self - install rubber bands at ankles/wrists of coveralls.....I can see myself squirming around covered in all manner of automotive fluids trying to isolate/separte myself from some demonoid little critter with sharp teeth and a penchant for buggery....
I used to have a skunk in my garage.....My son (then 6) and I made a corral out of planks and shooed him out with hockey sticks....we were standing on chairs and is was quite comical and VERY fortuante the skunk didn't choose to unload.....My Son drew pictures for weeks and we still laugh about the epic "Skunk battle" |

My wifes long haired white cat got into my garage last week, so I hit the button and closed the door on her.
Then forgot about the old beastie. Next morning I hit the door opener and this black and white cat came blasting out. Seems she took a swim in some open pan of oil I had around. Well, too bad kitty. How about a nice hot bath. :D |
