new to the benz world
I would like to know if a 240D engine from a 1977 is the same as in a 1975?

No. The 74-76 had the 616.916. 77-83 had the 616.912.

Just a guess here;
The differences may be in the IP. I believe around then, they changed the IP from having it's own oil system, to sharing the engine lube system. |

The old version had a completely different pump (pnumatic governor). Engine preglow and start/stop is by gorilla knob instead of key. Oil bath air cleaner feeding a big intake plenum. Oil filter is under the front of the engine, which makes changing the filter an interesting adventure.
There are enough differences that the engines are not easily swapable.

Welcome to Mercedesshop. The word "Benz World", or Benzwirld, as Gilly likes, one of the moderators here, is better known as the next door neighbor, or the place you go when your bad, or kicked out here! Kinda like forum prison! ...BB |
