engine and tranny seperation

is there any special way to seperate the engine from the tranny? if you all remember a while back i scrapped my old sd. well i removed the engine and tranny together. when i tried to seperate them they wouldnt come apart. i have removed all of the bolts holding the bell housing to the engine and all lines on it. the bellhousing seperantes about an inch, thats it. the spline doesnt wanna come out of the flywheel. did i miss something? whats stopping it?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Try removing the bolts that hold the torque converter to the flexplate (flywheel).

Exactly,

I believe that there are six.

There is a small opening in the bottom of the engine casting where you can reach your hand in to tell where the bolts are to loosen them.

Hi,
I believe on the drivers side of the tranny near the front up high, you will see what looks like a bolt. It is actually a plastic plug that unscrews out. It protrudes in on the engine side of the torque converter and thats whats preventing you from seperating. Unscrew it and they should seperate. THe first one I ever did I used a prybar to seperate them not knowing and the plug broke. No damage done to the tranny but another "Mercedisism" into the file. HTH Mike
