replaced motor mounts now trans shifts HARD!

Hi All,
I just replaced the motor mounts on my 96 E300 and now trans shifts HARD! In fact, it started a day or so after the mounts were replaced. I did not replace the trans mount, but I'm wondering if by raising the engine up to remove the mounts I screwed something up. At the same time the hard shifting started the engine electronic light came on in the dash. Any ideas on my first step?
Thanks a bunch,
Matt Hemsley

I dont know about the newer mercedes but I bet a dollar its the same as my 1984 300D.

On my car there is a hard plastic vacumm line that runs to the transmision. If that line were to come disconected it would cause hard shifting.

Thanks Brabus, I've got some time in the morning I can try to check the lines.

Yes, that was my thought too! Sounds like you desturbed a vacuum hose, or tube, connecting the modulator valve, usually located on the drivers side of the tranny.

While you are checking replace any rubber end fittings that don't fit real snug......if its loose its leaking vacume.

Thanks for the replies, what's really weird though is that it didn't start shifting hard until two days later. Anyway, I didn't see anything too obvious from the top so I guess I'll have a go at it from underneath. One other question, will I need to disconnect the battery to reset the electronic engine warning display?
Thanks again,
Matt Hemsley

Once I could see what vacuum lines came from the trans(they weren't disconnected), I was able to follow them up to the engine compartment where they went behind the windshield wash resevoir...not one, but two lines had been disconnected(whew). Now for the growing water leak between the head and block and the sunroof for which I've seen plenty of threads on.
All your comments are much appreciated!

After the vacuum repair, I disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and did a test drive. The trans was once a again it's former self but the check engine light continued to stay on. Today I disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and that took care of the warning light. Concerning the water leak, someone mentioned "soft plugs" and that it might be the cause for the leakage, anyone know what and where these are?
