haha. That is worse than I remember it. That bolt is something else all together. Poor Poor Car. It is in a better place now :) Thanks for posting those Brandon.

Any tips or tricks to the job? Or is it just a matter of removing 3 bolts from one side, letting it drop some, then removing 3 bolts from the other side?

Or would that ruin the other disc?

Car was on the lift at my Indi today, for an unrelated issue, and I asked the the mechanic (He is Mecredes knowledgable) to look at my Flex Disks. He did, and said they were Ok. There is no problem that I know off, but can the condition of Flex Disks be determined just by a visual inspection.

Thanks

In my case it was just a visual inspection by the mechanic from under the car while it was on the lift. The drive-shaft WAS NOT removed, just rotated slightly back and fourth by hand.

Basically becuse of this thread I had asked him to check it. He did it for me as a favour.

Print all the pictures + text for your mechanic.

FYI:
Any trace of white or thread = a junk disc.

This is a GREAT thread. My '89 300TE was having some shifting problems when cold. I took the car to Enrique. He found that a tranny seal was bad and fluid had leaked.

At the same time he looked at the flex disk. It was bad. I asked him to replace it.

From what you guys have written here, it seems like I just saved myself a lot of $$$ in potentially damaging future repairs.

Thanks.

in replacing the engine in my 58 sd, I replaced the flex discs with new ones I purchased for my now defunct 300d, and the old ones were looking pretty bad at 250k

will post pics.

Happened to me today 1987 300E...deployed airbag and a few miles later parts of the flex disc on highway..
Why would this happen? ...just had the front flex disc replaced 3 months ago..Don't have the thump like before it was replaced.
Thanks

Sorry to tell you that there is only one possiblity.

The mechanic failed to properly tighten the three fasteners, or, he installed the flex-disc backwards...........

how often should these be changed?

I bought a 1997 C280 and the inspection guy told me that I should change mine eventually(meaning soon:eek:) . it only has 76,000 miles on it though.

Time is as important as milage for rubber parts. I'm probably going to change the disks on my '96 this summer.

But now I'm extremely curious. Why does the previous post by cangold say "Lasted edited by Brian Carlton...?"
