Greetings Everyone.

I've been lurking here for a few weeks absorbing information, and I've decided to put serious effort into finding a nice W124 Diesel to use as a daily driver.

I've narrowed it down to either the '92-'93 5cyl TD, or the '95 6cyl NA diesel.

My understanding is that the engines in the 92 and 93 models is essentially the same, but some of the engine management and control went electronic in '93.

The 6cyl NA engine in '95 continued on into the '96 and '97 W210 E300 models, some of which I've heard were problematic - but I can't say I know the nature of the problems. They might have nothing to do with engine, and everything to do with body/electrics (spring perch, etc.)

So, does anyone have strong feelings, advice, or cautionary tales regarding '92 vs. '93 vs. '95?

Bob,I think you are on the right trail,I would suggest a pristine 1995 E300 Diesel,reason being is that was the last year for the 124 chassis,and it was the tops,the new eng the 606/910 is bullet proof,and proven itself time and time again,It does not have a dazling amount of electronics to contend with,and will provide satisfactory acceleration from a stopped position. they will be hard to find especilly if it had documented maintainance records,and never been wrecked or flooded. But a little warning is you had better have your fun money fat for the transaction.That is my 2cts worth,Because I owne such a car, and money cant buy it.
