need torque specs and info for front hub replacement
 

Hello I have a '84 300td wagon. I deleted the earlier post about the stripped threads in the front wheel hub from the tire shop. Well I am pretty sure that the hub from my '79 300sd parts car is going to work. I was looking at an online manual that mentioned putting new lockwashers on the bolts that hold the disc to the hub. I do not have any lockwashers on the parts car, this seeems ok because the threads for the hub bolts are flush on the front.
Do I need lockwasher for the hub to disc bolts? What are the torque specs for the hub to disc bolts? What are the torque specs for the caliper mount bolts? Also I am getting different answers for the actual wheel bolt torque from 65-85 ft/lbs.?
I am looking on steaky.org, the info is probably in there somwhere but I have not found it yet

Torque specs for the brake disc-to-front nub bolt is 84 ft/lbs. Brake caliper bolts are 84 ft/lbs for the front, and 66 ft/lbs for the back.

Hello joe and thanks for the info. I finally found the torque specs on steaky.org. the specs I found call for 115Nm. The manual also calls for only using the bolts once. Well I am out here in the country with no benz shop around . Do you think that High temp loctite will hold ?

Try some websites that sell MB parts like Performance Products, or call up Rusty at MBParts, they can probably get you those bolts delivered to your front door. PM me for more info.

I've replaced rotors many times on various vehicles and never utilized new cap screws. Once you torque them to spec, they aren't going anywhere. I wouldn't use the Loctite if you ever expect to get them back off again. You don't have much margin in terms of stripping the allen heads.

Thanks to everyone for all your help. This is for brian if you are still up. I see you are a senior fellow on the forum. Can you give me any info on the interchangeability of the hubs from my parts car '79 300sd to my driver '84 300td. So far I know the wheel bolt pattern is the same, the disc is different. My research indicates the wheel bearings are the same part # for the 2 cars. I can not see any reason for the parts not to be interchangeable. I guess I will find out for sure tomorrow morning when I pull the hub off the wagon.

there are three degrees of locktite. use the middle strength, i believe it is the red. this will work fine.

Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge of the hub on the '79 SD, being that it is a W116. Be a bit careful, however. You are attempting to put a hub from a W116 on a W123. Two completely different bodies. It might fit, but, I'd be doubtful.

Well the '79 hub measured identical to the '84 300td hub. The swap was no problem, went very smoothly.
