603 motor mounts

I did the search, and it seems that motor mount replacement discussion has been centered on 123's. Anyone have any experience on replacing motor mounts on a 300SDL? 603 engine. Level of difficulty? Hints? Car has 263,xxx miles. Where can I perhpas find the procedure? Thanks.

This is one of those jobs that I let the mechanic do. It's doable if you are ambitious, but, without a lift, all the work is on your back, and, if any of those 18 year old fasteners decide to give you problems.................

You need to be able to safely support the vehicle in the front, and then additionally support the engine while changing the mounts. Of course, your body desires to be in the exact place where the jack must sit.

The mechanic has a floor jack for the oil pan and he does both mounts in 30 minutes or less.

The procedure is very similar to the 123. There are fasteners that secure the mount and one bolt that secures the engine.

If you are young and ambitious, go for it. Make sure that the heads of the screws are clean and you have a good fit with the allen wrench before turning. If they have never been done, it would be in your best interest to soak the fasteners overnight with penetrating oil (Kroil or similar). If you break one, or round the head, you are in a world of hurt.

Brian, I changed the right hand engine mount (exhaust manifold side) and it took me less than 10 minutes.

Before doing it, I contemplated that this was going to be a ball buster to do, outside and in the cold too, but it turned out to be too easy!

I used the alternator bracket as a jack point with a small hydraulic jack. I would never use the oil pan as it is molded aluminum and very prone to crack.

Using a block of wood I had no problems jacking up the engine from the oil pan. This is a pita job, hopefully everything comes apart.

Just had my '87 300SDL motor mounts replaced. Only 90,000 miles on it, but the motor mounts were shot! I let my indy do it for about $120 in labor and $60 in parts.
